Russia and Belarus to the Olympics

Russia and Belarus to the Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided that athletes from Russia and Belarus may participate in the Olympics. They may participate as neutral athletes, without the use of emblems and flags. This joins a series of cowardice from the Olympic Committee. For me, this decision will mean that I will not be able to watch the Olympics. I will also introduce my own private boycott of the partners of the IOC.

Do not compete against athletes with blood on their hands

I hope that athletes say no to competing in an Olympics with athletes from these two countries. Even if the IOC says that athletes who actively support the war will not be able to participate, it makes no difference. The vast majority in these countries have never said either yes or no to the brutal attack on Ukraine. I also doubt that the IOC has enough resources to check up on the attitude of each individual athlete.

An Olympics with athletes from these countries will be used politically. The countries will use it as confirmation that the international community accepts the attack. While athletes from Russia and Belarus are allowed to participate in the Olympics, several thousand Ukrainian athletes must defend the fatherland in the trenches. The IOC is not fair with its decision. It is cowardly and the reason is solely for the sake of commercial gain.

Boycott the Olympics

I call on all countries to boycott the Olympics in protest against the decision of the IOC. If the individual countries’ Olympic Committees do not want to boycott, I hope as many athletes as possible have sense enough to show their solidarity with Ukrainian athletes and not participate.

For those of us who normally watch the Olympics on TV, I would recommend not doing so during the upcoming Olympics in Paris. We should also put pressure on the partners of the IOC. Below I have made a list of the collaboration partners.

On 24 February 2022, Russia launched a brutal attack on neighboring Ukraine. A war that is still going on and that has cost hundreds of thousands of people their lives. Several tens of thousands of civilians, women and children are among those killed. Several thousand Ukrainian children have been abducted by the Russians and adopted into Russian families. The violations of human rights are as gross as it gets. Belarus’ role is that they allowed Russian forces to attack Ukraine from Belarus at the start of the war. The hands of athletes from Belarus and Russia are filled with blood, regardless of whether they participate or not. By participating, they give their indirect support to a brutal war.
