Izium also there war crimes

The discovery of a mass grave in the liberated Ukrainian city of Izium Ukraine, joins the series of war crimes committed by Russian soldiers against Ukrainians. The mass grave has about 450 bodies. According to the authorities in Kharkiv, current evidence shows that most have been tortured and executed. Dead bodies are on their backs, others with ropes around their necks.

This post is over 1 year old. The content might therefore be less relevant now.

A pattern

As the Russians are driven back from areas, their atrocities are revealed. The war crimes in Butsja are well documented. When the Russians were driven out of this area in March, the world saw atrocities committed by the Russian forces. Feel free to read my blog about this.

The pattern in Izium appears to be quite similar to the war crimes in Butsja. In Izium, at least the bodies are buried. Probably to try to hide the brutality. Ukrainian authorities say that there are probably several mass graves in the area.

Izium liberated

After Ukraine’s huge offensive in the Kharkiv region recently, the small town with approx. 46,000 inhabitants is finally freed from Russian fascism. A mass grave of 450 people is a lot for a city of 46,000 inhabitants. If we take into account that most escaped to Ukraine before the Russian siege, we can understand the scale. The war crimes in Butsja and Izium are probably the top of the mountain. There are probably great tragedies hiding in the areas still occupied by Russia.

The Russians’ brutal assault on their neighboring country is increasingly reminiscent of proven genocide. Putin thought the war would be won in a few days. Instead, the Russians struggle and leave behind as many dead as possible on their way out of the occupied territories. Putin must personally answer for what his army has done in terms of war crimes.
