The United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Norway impose entry sanctions on two of Israel’s ministers. It is the entry ban on Finance Minister Smotrich and Security Minister Ben-Gvir that is in question. The reason, according to Norwegian Prime Minister Joans Gahr Støre, is that they have made statements over a long period of time that encourage violence and expulsion of the Palestinians.
Why entry sanctions against Bezalel Smotrich and Ben-Gvir?
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is one of many illegal settlers in the West Bank. The Israeli settlements there are illegal under international law. He has made many controversial statements, including denying the existence of a Palestinian people. He has also led secret Israeli attempts to annex areas in the West Bank.

Itamar Ben-Gvir is also a settler from the Israeli-occupied West Bank. He is considered to be the most right-wing extremist in the government. Itamar Ben-Gvir has a long history of anti-Arab activism. He has actively supported Jewish terrorist organizations such as the now banned Kach party.
Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre writes on Facebook:
The background is the Israeli authorities’ serious breaches of international law in Palestine. Finance Minister Smotrich and Security Minister Ben-Gvir have made statements over a long period of time encouraging violence and the expulsion of Palestinians.
Increasing international pressure
The international community is becoming increasingly aware of Israel’s war in Gaza and actions in the West Bank. There must be stronger international pressure on Israel. The terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, they have the right to defend themselves against by using self-defense. What we see in Gaza today is beyond a reasonable reaction. Israel’s annexation of Palestinian territories is in violation of international law and must cease.
Increased international pressure on Israel is required. These countries’ entry sanctions against individual members of the government should be extended to include other forms of sanctions. Peace between Israel and Palestine can only be a real peace through negotiations. What we see in Gaza makes many people think of genocide.
