Ukraine’s war against imperialism
Dette innlegget er også tilgjengelig i: Norsk bokmål Русский Українська
Ukraine’s war against imperialist Vladimir Putin continues. The Russian dictator imposed a so-called ceasefire that lasted until Easter. A ceasefire to show Donald Trump his humanity. The so-called ceasefire was, of course, a charade. Hundreds of violations of the ceasefire have been reported. Ukraine’s struggle against the imperialist Russia has changed quite dramatically since Donald Trump became the new US president. From being a guarantor of arms deliveries and support for Ukraine, the US is now in reality Trump’s strongest advocate.
The imperialist’s dream
Vladimir Putin’s dream is unlikely to stop in Ukraine. His big goal is to reinstate the old Soviet empire. All former Soviet Union countries are part of Trump’s dream. This is what Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyj has been warning against for a long time. It’s the same thing that’s being repeated in the Baltic countries, in Poland and among the opposition in Belarus, to name but a few.

It’s easy to explain why Vladimir Putin started trying to take Ukraine first. He obviously thought the country was as weak as when Crimea was annexed and parts of Donbas were occupied by Russia and pro-Russian rebels in 2014. The Russian president believed that taking all of Ukraine would take a few days. By taking Ukraine, the way would be open to the small country of Moldova. Belarus is already under Putin’s control through his deputy dictator Alexander Lukashenko. Russia can incorporate the country into the Russian Empire by exerting political pressure on Lukashenko and holding a predetermined referendum. Belarus is not urgent in Putin’s plan.
Vladimir Putin has repeated many times that it was a mistake to dissolve the Soviet Union and allow the republics that were involuntarily placed under Soviet borders to gain their freedom. Ukraine is the first of the countries Vladimir Putin wants to return to Russia by force, brute force. The war has probably cost the lives of over 300,000 people so far, many thousands of them civilians.
The weak American president
With Donald Trump as president, there was a shift in US foreign policy. An American president who believes all Russian propaganda. According to Donald Trump, Ukraine is to blame for the war. Strange that a country that was obviously attacked on February 22 is to blame for the war.
Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin have things in common. They stand for much of the same things. The imperialist Trump talks about taking Greenland and threatens Panama. Two presidents of two former enemies have found each other in a sickening harmony.
In this world, Ukraine is fighting Europe’s battle. We in Western Europe must never allow ourselves to be tempted into an easy solution to the war. Never believe that Putin will stop at Ukraine, never believe that the war is over if a permanent ceasefire is introduced. Putin wants to take all of Ukraine, his dreams do not stop there.
