Ukraine’s Independence Day, 2.5 years of war
Congratulations on Ukraine’s Independence Day. The day is celebrated on the same day as the commemoration of the 2.5 year anniversary of Putin’s attempt to rob an independent country of their freedom. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost their lives, even more have been injured and probably 2 million have been displaced. As Ukraine struggles to celebrate the day it became an independent country, its people are still fighting for their independence.
Putin’s imperialist project
Putin’s attempts to get the neighboring country to submit to his totalitarian regime continue. Russia believed that Ukraine would fall in a few days. That’s not what happened. Ukraine is still fighting for its existence on its own Independence Day.
Putin’s project to rebuild the old Soviet empire has taken a turn for the worse in Ukraine. Ukraine has not fallen and the war has recently moved onto Russian soil. Putin called it terrorism when Ukrainian forces crossed the border into Kursk a couple of weeks ago. Terror is something all of Ukraine has been exposed to for 2.5 years and parts of Ukraine ever since Crimea was annexed in 2014. Ukraine is trying to create a buffer zone to major Ukrainian cities. Terrorism is the bombing of hospitals, kindergartens, apartment buildings and infrastructure by Putin’s army over the past 2.5 years.
The war could have been over
Ukraine has been up against Russia’s superior army for a long time. This is mainly due to a willingness to fight for their independence. Help from other countries in the form of weapons, finances and other support is also essential. Ukraine’s future is the responsibility of the entire free world.
It’s sad that Ukraine didn’t get the necessary weapons until after Putin’s assault was a fact. If Ukraine had access to the military equipment it has now, the war would have been over long ago. Putin’s brutal tactics would have been defeated at the border.
Happy birthday to all of Ukraine. Next year, we will celebrate Ukraine’s final independence together with the victory over Russia.
