Forcing Palestinians to leave Gaza is clearly something Trump thinks is smart. He could just as easily say that he wants Israel to annex the area. Forcibly moving a people to another area is tantamount to asking for even more trouble. Trump’s desire to deport Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt is not well received in Egypt and Jordan.
Deposit for a shorter or longer period
Trump says he wants Egypt and Jordan to accept more Palestinians from Gaza for a shorter or longer period. What he’s really saying is that Israel’s problems should be moved elsewhere. The problem is the Palestinians, but Israel’s policy of annexing more and more Palestinian territories.
Depositing a group of people somewhere other than where they originally come from has never been a good idea. The Jews themselves have felt this. Centuries of expulsion from the land they once came from created problems. The hatred in Europe towards the Jews, who were blamed for much of the problems in Europe in the interwar period, ultimately led to the greatest ethnic cleansing of our time. The Germans’ attempt to annihilate the Jews is still fresh in the memory.
A two-state solution is the only alternative. A two-state solution in which the Palestinians get their state and Israel remains within the borders set in 1948.
Strange that Trump comes up with this
It’s also very strange that Trump wants to move a couple of million Palestinians to other countries. He won the US presidential election partly because he wanted to close the US borders to immigration and send back illegal immigrants.
So it’s very strange that he also wants other countries to take in people that the US and Israel want to dump. If the Palestinians were to be forced to relocate, it might not matter where they are. Perhaps the US itself should take in 2 million people from Gaza. No, the truth is that the US and Israel want to further expand the Palestinian state. Moving people from Gaza to somewhere else quickly becomes a permanent move.
