Christmas movies are something most people have a relationship with. My Christmas movie above all others is Disney’s version of Charles Dickens’ book “A Christmas Carol”. Charles Dickens is an author I really appreciate. I have featured him in a previous blog. Feel free to read that blog. Disney’s interpretation of the book is both entertaining, thought-provoking and of course very well made. The movie is recommended to everyone.

A Christmas Carol, what Christmas is really all about

A Christmas Carol
Disney’s version of “A Christmas Carol”

A Christmas Carol is the movie about the stingy Ebenezer Scrooge. His business partner died on Christmas Eve and a few years later it’s Ebenezer Scrooge’s turn. That is, he doesn’t die. He is visited by 3 spirits. The spirit of Christmas past, the spirit of Christmas present and the spirit of Christmas future. Through these three spirits, we are taken on a journey through Ebenezer Scrooge’s different Christmases, right from when he was a child.

Throughout this journey, Disney uses fantastic effects that make the movie exciting and interesting. At times it is a little dramatic, which means that it may not be suitable for the very youngest children.

Although the movie is set in 1843, when the book was published, it is just as relevant today. Through Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey through his Christmases and up to the present day, we see an evolution in his demeanor. From the caring to the miser. From the cheerful one to the sad one who only thought of even more money.

Christmas is love and understanding

For me, Christmas is about love and understanding. This was something that Mr. Scrooge had too, until his desire for money got the better of him. Being able to enjoy life with your family is a central part of Christmas for most people. Likewise, Christmas is a time for reflection. It’s also a time to share joys with each other. Sharing small and large joys with both loved ones and people who need it.

Get out some candy. Something good to drink and enjoy yourselves. The movie is something I have to have with me every Christmas. For me, it’s part of Christmas itself.
