Trump will betray Ukraine

According to the Washington Post, Trump wants to pressure Ukraine to give up the Crimean peninsula and Donbas. He has previously said that he could end the war in one day if he were president. Trump’s plan is a terrible deal for Ukraine, says Emma Ashford of the Stimson Center think tank. Giving away territory in exchange for a ceasefire without other assurances would put Ukraine in a difficult situation, she says. This will give Putin the chance to rearm before a new attack. It is clear to me that Trump will fail Ukraine. His plan for peace is in reality a Ukrainian capitulation.
To fail Ukraine is to fail democracy
The betrayal of Ukraine has started long ago for Trump and his Republican Party. The blocking of an aid package to Ukraine means that Ukraine has little ammunition to defend itself. Congress has spent several months passing the support package. The person pulling the strings on the Republican side and effectively blocking aid to Ukraine is Donald Trump.
Trump’s peace plan is also a violation of international law. It’s clear that international agreements mean little to Trump.
At the moment, Ukraine does not have the ammunition for a counteroffensive. They need what little they have left to defend themselves. Without continued help from the US, Ukraine will probably fall into Russian hands sooner or later. For Trump to force Ukraine into a so-called peace agreement is in reality to betray democracy, expand the territory of a dictatorship and betray free people in eastern Europe.
Don’t vote for Trump
I’m not from the US and therefore not eligible to vote in this fall’s election. Nevertheless, I make a plea to all Americans who put democracy first, to all who want to stop the Hitler of our time and to all who want peace. My prayer is not to give my vote to Trump.
With Trump as president, the relationship between the US and democratic Europe is likely to change. This is a change that is not in the interests of the US and Europe, but in Putin’s. The US cannot count on the same support in its foreign policy from Europe if Trump really wants to abandon Ukraine.
