Trump, Putin’s best friend

The world hardly believed what they saw yesterday. The meeting in the Oval Office between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyj was the most absurd thing the world has seen since the Second World War. It’s clear that the US has completely changed course with Donald Trump as president. From being a great supporter of Ukraine’s fight for independence, the US has gone to having a president who is Putin’s best friend. Ukrainian President Zelenskyj and Trump were to sign an agreement on Ukraine’s minerals. The signing didn’t happen, but instead it was made clear to the whole world that the US has switched sides.
Towards war throughout Europe?
The whole session in the Oval Office could be the start of the expansion of the war in Ukraine. It is clear that the US will not do anything for Ukraine, and almost certainly not for European countries that support Ukraine. The possibility of Russia attacking targets in Poland and other countries that ship military equipment to Ukraine is high.
There is also a great temptation for Putin to try to take over the Baltic countries. The US is unlikely to intervene. Trump showed in his first term as president that he admires Trump. It is conceivable that the US might actually help Putin in such an operation. A good friend is happy to help each other.
A mineral deal that was pure exploitation in good colony style

Zelenskyj described the mineral agreement as a framework because it did not contain a guarantee for Ukraine’s security. However, Ukraine believed that the agreement would lead to some form of security guarantee. Donald Trump has made it clear that it is out of the question to send American soldiers to Ukraine to monitor the border after a possible ceasefire. At today’s meeting, Trump argued that it is Europe that must send soldiers and that a written agreement with Putin should actually be enough.
Putin, for his part, has said that there is no question of Russia accepting soldiers from Western Europe. Trump should have shown this. In the Oval Office, with the press present, Zelenskyj said that Ukraine and Russia had signed several written ceasefire agreements since 2014. Trump clearly did not show what happened in 2014. These written agreements are after 2014, 3 ceasefire agreements signed in Minsk. When Ukraine gave away its nuclear weapons to Russia in 1994, an agreement was also signed in which, among other things, Russia guaranteed Ukraine’s borders. But Putin’s good friend clearly doesn’t want to understand why Ukraine needs guarantees and not just some words written on a piece of paper.
The mineral agreement was basically an extremely bad deal for Ukraine. It would effectively give the US half of Ukraine’s huge deposits of earth minerals. This was very reminiscent of how colonial powers exploited other countries in the past.
A friend left Europe
A close friend left his friends in Europe with this. It is clear that the US now supports totalitarian regimes. Europe’s democratic traditions mean zero to Donald Trump.
A major war in Europe is highly conceivable. Not since the Second World War has there been a closer war than now. On one side are Europe’s democracies, on the other side the dictatorships with their new friend as an eager spectator.
