Rich people stop donations to the Democrats

After Joe Biden’s mildly frail performance during the first debate against Donald Trump, many have questioned the sitting president’s age. Many believe he is too old for four more years in the White House. There is obviously an unease among the Democrats. Now even financial contributors are starting to get fed up. Wealthy Americans on whom the parties depend to finance their election campaigns are reacting. Abigail Disney, granddaughter of Walt Disney says she will stop contributions until Joe Biden is replaced as the Democratic presidential candidate. She says Biden’s efforts have been admirable, but says the stakes and risks are now too high.
The rich and power
In Europe, we can say a lot about political parties and candidates being completely dependent on rich people supporting their campaigns financially. It is worrying that the rich influence politics in this way. But that’s the way the system works in the US, and some people like it. Others say it’s a democratic problem.
What is certain is that anyone who wants to become president or gain other significant political positions needs financial support. It will be very difficult for the Democrats to campaign if more rich people turn their backs on them. The signal from Abigail Disney is not to be misunderstood. More and more people want a different candidate. Not because Joe Biden has done a bad job, but because his age is being questioned.
Biden should not have run for president again
Already when Joe Biden was elected president, many people asked questions about his age. The questions are increasing. Many believed that Biden would not seek re-election, but that he would become a kind of transitional president for the Democrats. An intermediary until they found a younger candidate.
It’s not easy even to realize that enough is enough. Joe Biden did not. It seems highly unlikely that he will beat Donald Trump in the November election. The reason is hardly that he has done a bad job as president, but the people’s concern for a president who is weighed down by age.
The incumbent president has two choices. One is to resign before the national meeting in August. This will enable the Democrats to have an orderly process leading up to the national convention. The other option is to try to stay in power and remain the Democratic presidential candidate. If he does not resign voluntarily, it will be very damaging for the party. The time has come for Joe Biden to realize that his time in the White House is over.
