Iran shot down PS752
Today admits Iran that they shot down the Ukrainian flight route PS752 by accident. Good that the admission is coming. It is good for all parties, especially those left behind, to know what happened.
Tried to hide the shooting
It may appear that Iran tried to cover up the shooting. The wreckage was removed before an international accident commission had access to the wreckage. The black box was refused to be handed over to others and bulldozers were used at the crash site to help. I wrote a blog yesterday about some of this.
It seems to me that Iran eventually saw that it would be impossible for them to refute evidence that allegedly existed. Footage of the shooting is available, and the US and Canada said they had intelligence to prove it. Pretty sure satellite imagery.
PS752 and conspiracies
It is of course extra bad that known elements in the production and dissemination of conspiracy theories were underway. There are websites on the outer political pages that are among these. As a matter of principle, I do not send links to these pages. There are websites at the extremes of the political landscape. What they have in common is that they seem to want to fight everything that has to do with Western culture and democracy.
Among other things, it was suggested that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lied about information that the plane was shot down. Things that don’t quite fit into these environments’ understanding of the world must be explained away. Conspiracies are used for this. It is unfortunate and unfortunate for a constructive debate.
Hope for peace
I hope that Iran’s confession can help reduce the level of conflict in the Middle East. My thoughts go out to those left behind.
