Alexei Navalny is dead

It is reported from Russia that the imprisoned opposition politician Alexei Navalny has died. In the end, Putin’s regime managed to get rid of another troublesome voice. The death comes as no surprise. The regime has attempted to kill him with poison, among other things. Feel free to read my blog about this.

Long line of death

The news of Alexei Navalny’s death joins a long line of murders of journalists and politicians opposed to Putin. I wrote a blog about Anna Politkovskaya, feel free to read that blog. This list of murdered opponents also includes names such as Boris Nemtsov, Aleksandr Litvinenko and others.

Alexei Navalny will emerge as one of the biggest critics of the regime. He died in prison after being arrested for failing to attend mandatory meetings after his release from prison a few years ago. The reason he did not attend was that he was poisoned and brought to Germany for treatment. He was later imprisoned on baseless charges, leading to a lengthy prison sentence.

In prison, his health has been poor and he has received poor medical care. Letting the most famous living opposition figure die in prison was clearly the plan all along.

Dangerous for Putin’s critics

Russian prisons hold many critics of Vladimir Putin’s regime. The number of people who have chosen to travel abroad to pursue their work from there is huge. Back in Russia, there is no opposition. The little guy is gagged, denied the right to run for office. One example of the opposition being prevented from standing for election is Yekaterina Duntsova. Feel free to read my blog about her.

It is clear that Russia has long since abandoned the principles of a democratic state. Under Vladimir Putin’s regime, the country has become a totalitarian state that will stop at nothing.

I shine peace on the memory of Alexei Navalny,

Putin viser på ny sitt totalitære ansikt. En trist dag for alle som kjemper for et Russland med demokrati og ytringsfrihet.
