Half a year in hell for Ukraine

Half a year in hell for Ukraine

It is half a year since Russia started a full-scale war against its neighbours. Half a year of war and hell. The war has shown us the most horrific suffering. An innocent people who want to decide over themselves and their future are subjected to abuse by the powerful neighbor who believes they have the right to decide over another country. Half a year of terrorist bombing against civilian targets. Schools, hospitals, railway stations and apartment blocks. The war has also shown Russian soldiers deliberately raping and killing civilians. But how long will the war last? How long can Ukraine last? How long will Western countries supply Ukraine with weapons?

Old post

This post is over 1 year old. The content might therefore be less relevant now.

Hell for Putin too

Apparently, Putin and his warmongers thought the war would be over in a couple of days, a week at the most. That’s not how it went. The war is still going on 6 months after Russia’s attack.

North of Kyiv, Russian parade uniforms were found after the Russian forces had to leave the areas. A little more precise is probably the term that the Russians had to flee the areas in a hurry. They were eventually forced back by Ukrainian forces.

The parade uniforms Putin thought would mark the Russian liberation of what he believed to be a divided people. Russia was wrong. Rather, the war has strengthened unity in Ukraine. Among the Russian-speaking population, almost no one speaks Russian. They now speak Ukrainian to show their disgust with Russia and their support for their fatherland.

Putin’s belief in a quick victory has probably become hell for him too. He seems to have no way out of the war he started. If he pulls the Russian forces out of the neighboring country, it will be a huge defeat. Probably the end of Putin’s time.

Ukraine’s dilemma

The problem for Ukraine is that they are dependent on Western supplies of weapons. In recent times, there has been less and less supply of weapons to Ukraine. It probably makes the situation difficult for Ukraine. Ukraine must get new supplies of weapons now.

Many countries in Europe have become dependent on Russian gas. Despite warnings that gas could be used as a means of pressure in a conflict, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and others have closed their ears and been at the mercy of the Russian supplies.

We now see the result in the form of huge energy prices in Europe. Several countries may face a cold winter, a winter that could become hell. Nevertheless, today several Western countries give guarantees for additional arms support to Ukraine.

The war Ukraine cannot lose and Russia cannot withdraw

In my opinion, the war has only just begun. That is, it actually started in 2014 with Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the Russian invasion of Donbas. But as a full-scale war, it is only half a year old. It will probably last a long time, perhaps several years.

Western values stand against fascism and dictatorship. Ukraine defends Western values on its own. The war is much more important than a war between two countries. It is a war between democracy and dictatorship, freedom and persecution.
